Who We Are and What We Do

If you have not yet studied with us, you may not already know that the Global Coaching Academy has been creating and delivering heart-based training programmes since 2004.

We began as a very small Registered Training Organisation in Perth offering a Certificate of Mentoring and Coaching. This was in response to people who were looking for a meaningful course and qualification that wasn't all about 'rah rah' and money making, rather about wanting to make a difference and support others to become the best versions of themselves. 17 years later, GCA is delivering a Diploma of Mentoring, Coaching and Interpersonal Facilitation, as a fully internationally recognised ICF accredited coach training program to participants in United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, Asia and New Zealand.

Some heartfelt inspiration for our readers...

The joy of life comes from our

encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.

Myth busters...

Exploring a new paradigm of Coaching, Mentoring and Interpersonal Facilitation, what it is and what it isn’t, from the perspective of GCA heart based philosophy.

Myth: "You always feel happy if you are joyful."

Bust: Joy is different from ‘happy’. Happiness is nice, but it doesn’t last. It is a fleeting moment brought on by something internal or external. It’s a smile from a stranger, a moment of peace, achieving something you’ve worked towards, a dance with a loved one… something that makes you feel loved, or complete, or happy for that moment. But those who constantly seek ‘happiness’ are doomed to never find it because it is simply a feeling in a moment which passes all too quickly. It cannot be held onto or grasped.

Joy, on the other hand, is a deeper, core feeling which can last and grow regardless of the situation internally or externally.

Joy can occur in the strangest of places – in the midst of grief, one can experience joy for having known someone you loved who is now gone. But you wouldn’t say you are ‘happy’ in that moment. Joy can be felt after having faced an ordeal which may have been harrowing, and you are spent, but the outcome was worth it. This is often experienced as a deep sense of satisfaction and simply joy in one’s heart. You can be happy, but not necessarily.

Happiness is very human. It is how we express in a moment when things are going well, when our small needs are being met. It is sweet and makes us feel good for a moment. It’s a fun thing to have.

Joy endures. It is felt in your heart and comes from something greater than yourself. It can be found in union with the Divine, in oneness with All That Is. It is eternal in its presence.

Both are a choice. We are in charge of whether we experience joy or happiness. And you can feel both joy and happiness at the same time. But joy is not dependent on happiness.

  Living with Joy

Living with Joy can feel elusive when we are challenged with the demands of the modern world. There is so much to do right? Yet choosing to embrace life as a rich learning school supports us to embody a grateful attitude and from a grateful attitude Joy is birthed.

Joy is a quiet appreciation for life, a choice to remember that life is a gift, and we get to choose what we bring to it. We can expect life to give us what we want, rather than what we need. We must be willing to bring ourselves to life, asking ourselves what we can bring to this situation.

Joy requires courage to know we will find a way when a new situation is presenting. To grow and learn we need to be challenged, stretched out of our comfort zones to see what is possible. We can grow with more grace or suffer by resisting what we are experiencing.

To live with Joy simply means to sink into the life we have created and learn from it. If nothing is random there must be something I need to learn here. I wonder what that is.

Embracing life in this way allows Joy to birth in the heart and guide our choices. It creates a purpose that lights the way.
